Hey Pop Punkers,

Although Im currently sitting on a coach bound for (not so sunny) London, I could easily be on route to any sunny state on the Vans Warped Tour with Planet Zero blasting in my ears. Although hailing from Mannheim, Germany, you could easily mistake them for an all American band.

Capturing the sound of the mid 2000’s Pop Punk I grew up on, Planet Zero remind me of bands such as Forever The Sickest Kids & Boys Like Girls, with sugar sweet melodies laid on top of well written and produced beds of power chords and huge sounding drums.

The opening track ‘Restart’ reminds me of All Time Low’s ‘Break Out Break Out’, with pounding rhythms and heavy, chugging riffs, yet melodic vocals and a catchy as hell chorus. I love the arrangement of this track, with moments were the song really breaths before kicking back into the straight up, pop punk grooves

‘Home’ contains a catchy gang vocal riff, which is present in the intro, and reappears in the chorus & breakdown. I think the message of this song will resonate with many pop punk kids, and touches on classic subjects such as home towns & pizza. The gang vocals will no doubt make this a crowd pleaser in their live set.

If I were kicking around Brighton on a sunny day holding an ice cold beer, ‘Zero Brew’ is the track I’d be playing. The song feels like it must of been written for days like this, with a chilled country rock groove. The last two lines of the chorus could almost be used as a jingle for beer company, but its catchy, and makes you long for summer.

‘Hot Shots’ is the heaviest moment on the EP, taking me back to the first time i ever heard A Day To Remember ‘Downfall Of Us All’. The screaming in the bridge may catch some listeners of guard, it does stick out a little from the otherwise clean Ep, but fans of A Day To Remember, Sleeping With Sirens and other Post-Hardcore/Pop-Punk bands will likely enjoy this addition.

4/5 -

This is a solid effort from a band I predict will make a good name for themselves in the Pop-Punk scene over the next few years. My one hope for the guys is that they manage to break out of Europe and reach the states, where I feel their sound and potential will be realised. The band are musically solid, and the song writing is awesome, with infectiously catchy hooks found in every song. It will be interesting to see how the band progresses, and if the band will progress to a slightly heavier sound on future releases.

“Origin” is out now for digital download and the guys will be hitting the road on their “Put Your Pants Down” tour (a cheeky nod to Blink 182), playing Berlin on the 26th (May, 2015).
